World Day of the Sick was first observed on February 11, 1993. February 11 is also the Catholic Feast of Our Lady of Lourdes . The World Day of the Sick is a feast day of the Roman Catholic Church which was instituted on May 13, 1992 by Pope John Paul II. Human beings are fragile, weak, and prone to illness. We all get sick at one time or another, some more seriously than others. Although modern medicine has come a long way in preventing and curing illness, many people find comfort in prayer as well.
